New finance director welcomed at Newcastle Building Society

NEWCASTLE Building Society has recruited Gary Wilkinson as finance director who moves from a senior role at Alliance & Leicester.

The chartered accountant joins with over 20 years’ financial services experience, predominantly at Alliance & Leicester, which he joined in 1986.

He initially set up an in-house tax department there, and subsequently held a number of positions within finance, ultimately becoming director of group financial control & reporting.

Chief executive Colin Seccombe said: “It is a pleasure to welcome Gary to Newcastle Building Society. Despite ongoing difficult market conditions the Society has returned to profitability, as shown in our recent half year results, and I have every confidence in Gary’s ability to develop further our financial strength.”

Mr Wilkinson said: “My experience working in and with building societies dates back to the start of my career and so I am delighted to join the board of the North East’s biggest mutual.

“Working recently with the regional building society businesses of Nationwide, I have seen just how important these institutions are to their local communities.

“This is clearly evident at the Newcastle, which has a loyal and growing membership.”
