Banger a smash

NEWBOULDS Butchers has three sausage varieties short-listed in the British Pig Executive (BPEX) Britain’s Magical Bangers competition.

This week is British Sausage Week and the North-east butcher - which is owned by Hurworth-based Country Valley Foods - is hoping to bag a prize for its top bangers.

Varieties in the running include the Beerpig - made with beer brewed by the Durham Brewery and named after a popular Teesside band - and its Sweet Maple Breakfast sausage.

Middlesbrough’s own Paul Daniels and wife Debbie McGee will judge a competition cook-off at Newcastle’s Blackfriar’s restaurant on Friday.
