Engineering company in move to Teesside

A GERMAN engineering equipment maker has moved its UK operation to Teesside from Chesterfield because of the success of the North East’s oil and chemical industry.

Ecom Instruments is moving its offices to the Wilton industrial centre near Redcar and said it wants to grow its business in the UK by working with North East organisations and companies in the industry.

Ecom makes and supplies technical equipment ranging from communication devices to lighting designed to be used in hazardous areas.

Carl Henderson ecom’s Northern UK sales manager, said: “Teesside is the ideal location for our business and our development plans. In addition to the thriving oil & gas sector supply chain operating in the region, over a third of the UK pharmaceutical industry is located in the North East as is over half of the petrochemical industry.

“We have established good relationships in the North East from our previous location; however, being based at Wilton International will increase our contact with these industries.”

The company said it wants to develop its relationships with potential customers through its membership of NOF Energy and the North East Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC).

Joanne Leng, director business development at NOF Energy, said: “The North East, and Teesside in particular, is still an attractive proposition for companies like ecom that want to further establish themselves within the industry sectors that operate out of the region. It is excellent news ecom is moving to the North East, which demonstrates the confidence in the energy sectors in the region.”
