NECC is the ‘best employer’

THE North East Chamber of Commerce has won an award in recognition of its flexible working practises.

The organisation, which says it has raised staff retention rates from 76% in 2008 to 90% last year, was named Best Employer of between 51 and 250 Staff at the North East Equality Awards.

NECC is a business membership organisation with more than 4,000 members, employing around a third of the North East workforce.

The award follows NECC’s success last year in winning the Innovative Working Practices Award, both of which are evidence of the emphasis the company puts on supporting its staff.

The awards are designed to recognise and reward employers who are tackling issues of equality and diversity in the work place.

NECC human resources manager Christine Watson said: “We have developed our equality and diversity strategy over a three-year period.

“The fact that this has raised staff retention rates so considerably is evidence that they are really working.”
