Together in the kitchen
A FATHER and son have gone into business together to head up the new restaurant at a Teesside hotel.
The Staincliffe at Seaton Carew has just undergone a massive refurbishment after passing into new ownership earlier this summer.
And now as part of the plan to restore the hotel to its former glory, experienced chefs Steve Welch and his son Rory have come in to run the new Some Place Else restaurant.
Steve, 50, has years of experience in the industry and previously worked as executive chef at Wynard Hall and also at St James’ Park. Rory has followed his dad into the business and after training in catering at Hartlepool College of Further Education worked at prestigious venues including Newcastle's Jesmond Dene House.
“We have put together a menu which is very British,” said Steve. “And we’ll be using food that is locally sourced whenever possible. We’ve already been talking to suppliers from the area and will be bringing in ingredients from them.”
Although both happy in their previous jobs, Steve and Rory wanted to take on a new challenge.
“We’ve always talked about us working together,” said Rory. “So this is a really exciting opportunity for us.”
