Middlesbrough flooring specialist hits the heights

A MIDDLESBROUGH-based flooring specialist has received the biggest order in its 20 year history as part of a major £275m retail development in Scotland.

Stokesley-based Genesis has supplied more than 2,300 meters of specially manufactured movement joints for the internal tiling of Aberdeen’s Union Square shopping mall development.

The firm, which exports to more than 70 countries globally, was able to beat off stiff competition for the contract as they were one of the few to be able to manufacture the bespoke joints within the timescale.

The 700,000 sq ft shopping mall will open to the public later this year and has more than 55 shops, a cinema, food hall and a hotel. The firm had to work to a tight deadline and had to deliver the movement joints direct to the site, which can prove challenging due to strict security checks.

Mike McCann, sales director at Genesis, said: “This has been the biggest single order for movement joints we’ve ever had; a fantastic achievement for the company. The order is approximately 400pc larger than an average request for joints we receive – a staggering figure. “
