Tees centre is the tops

A TEESSIDE contact centre is celebrating after being named the best in the region.

Barclaycard, which is based in Stockton, has been named the North East Contact Centre of the Year for 2009.

It won the prestigious prize at the annual North East Contact Centre Awards which this year took place at Rainton Meadows Arena in Sunderland.

Barclaycard won the award for contact centres with more than 250 seats ahead of other shortlisted centres including EDF Energy in Sunderland and BT in Newcastle.

A total of nine awards were handed out at the event, organised by Tyne and Wear Development Company, the business development agency for Tyne and Wear, in association with Sunderland City Council.

Paul Buie, from Tyne and Wear Development Company, said: “Barclaycard is an outstanding winner of this year’s competition and fully deserves the title of North East Contact Centre of the Year 2009.

“The contact centre industry is hugely important to the North-east, employing around 60,000 people across the region.

“Barclaycard was an exceptional entry.”
