Barclays staying competitive

BARCLAYS yesterday hosted a business event in Newcastle aimed at educating companies on best practice during a recession.

The event is part of Barclays business advisory initiative, Turning the Corner, which combines learning, networking and business turnaround programmes and events.

Brian Thorpe, head of Barclays Corporate in the North East, said: “This event provided the opportunity for our local customers to equip themselves with the tools and practices to help them remain competitive.

“We are acutely aware of our responsibilities in the current environment and we remain committed to creating and maintaining a platform for our clients to succeed.”

The event gave companies the chance to meet Jack Black, a leader in the world of personal development and motivational goal-setting and has worked with a number of professional athletes, Premier League footballers, musicians and more than half of the FTSE 100.

Mr Black said, “The UK business community needs more forums of this nature, which bring together local businesses and provide practical management advice and the ability to generate business opportunities.

“As companies are facing unprecedented challenges, learning from experts and peers at no cost is a small but positive step.”
