Design quest is on the cards

A FAMILY-RUN print and design firm is planning to expand its footprint in Teesside after launching a competition to find the North-east’s best business card.

JAK Print & Design, which opened an outlet in Darlington earlier this year, aims to open another two outlets - one in Teesside - within months as part of plans to double turnover to £1m in two years.

The Chester-le-Street company, run by father and son duo John and Andrew Knowles, has received more than 1,600 entrants within the first week of launching the competition, which aims to help businesses improve their marketing skills.

The award will be judged on five main criteria: design, use of colour, quality of the card, concept and overall impact.

Prizes include £500 worth of printing and publicity as well as a trophy. Deadline for entries is January 15 and the winner will be announced later that month.

The Knowles launched their venture in 2004 under the banner of JAK Publications, which produced community magazines for North-east sub-regions.

The following year they established JAK Print & Design offering adverts, stationery, flyers, leaflet distribution, and website design services for clients such as Aldi, House of Fraser and Toni & Guy.

JAK also runs a service which allows customers to create their own publications such as corporate marketing brochures and in-house magazines.

Andrew Knowles, from Stockton, who spent several years in sales at Coca Cola before running JAK, said: “ Our aim is to ensure every businessperson has the perfect business card.”
