Simpson Coulson and Lees clinch Middle East contract
A TEAM of Teesside consulting engineers has clinched a major contract in the Middle East.
Simpson Coulson and Lees, which is based in Billingham, is also set to hit a £2m turnover next year.
With roots stretching back almost 45 years on Teesside, the company was bought by managing director John Lees in 2002.
Earlier this year Trevor Arnold, former MD of engineering firm K Home International, joined the business as a partner.
Mr Arnold said the company had now secured a key contract to provide technical expertise on an 80,000 tonne district cooling plant on Al Sowwah Island in Abu Dhabi.
The project will supply cooling to more than 95,000 mixed use units on the island.
“The project is already under way,” added Mr Arnold, “and we need to recruit around 20 staff to work on the contract in Abu Dhabi.”
Simpson Coulson and Lees has already expanded its staff numbers from 18 to 42 since the summer.
The company is also in the running to work on a luxury Rosewood Hotel project in Abu Dhabi.
Opening in early 2012, Rosewood Abu Dhabi will be located on Al Sowwah Island.
“Our order book for the next nine months is strong,” added Mr Arnold.
“We’re aiming to hit £2m in turnover next year.”
Simpson Coulson and Lees’ origins date back to 1965 when the company was started by former ICI engineers Dick Simpson and Bob Coulson.
