Modern dental surgery opens in North Shields

A NORTH Tyneside entrepreneur has opened one of the country’s most modern dental surgeries in the North East after landing £680,000 of funding.
Ewan Bramley has set up new business Ewan Bramley Dental Care after receiving the finance from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and has used the money to move into a new site at North Shields Fish Quay and invest in the latest technology.
He has transformed the three-storey annexe of the landmark Irvin Building into a modern dental and facial aesthetics clinic, offering access to equipment that until now has been unavailable outside of a hospital in this region.
Mr Bramley, who left his position as partner in Smith & Bramley in North Shields to set up the new venture, says he is now the only dentist in the region to offer oral cancer scans and only the second in the country to operate a laser decay detector.
He has also invested a significant sum in a new computer-controlled dental injection device which he says gives much more precise anaesthetic injections.
Mr Bramley has already created eight jobs to help run the new facility and said that he expected to employ four more over the next two years.
He said: “US dentistry focuses on preventative care as opposed to only cure. Patients are given the opportunity to make their own choices about what measures they want to take to prevent future oral health problems.
“This is radically different to traditional UK practice and provides patients with a far greater understanding of their own mouths, allowing them to make informed decisions about their treatment.”
He decided to go ahead with the private practice after becoming frustrated by the constraints placed upon him by the NHS, and set about designing a dental clinic akin to those found in America rather than Tyneside.
Darrell Franciosy, healthcare development manager at RBS, said: “We were happy to support Ewan with this new venture and working closely with him, we can see where he plans to take the business and how determined he is to introduce a new way of looking at oral health.
“This will be a great benefit to the local community in Tyneside and we wish him every success.”
