Garland Coupon Service take on extra staff

THRIFTY shoppers have helped a Teesside business move into bigger offices and take on extra staff to cope with demand for its services.

Garland Coupon Service has recruited an extra 10 people, bringing the number it employs at its Thornaby base to 60. The £30m turnover business, which handles, processes and analyses money-off coupons for customers including the Co-Op, has also expanded into bigger, redesigned offices on the site so it can offer more services.

General manager Sarah Moreland, said: “The expansion coupled with our strong position in the coupon sector means we are geared up for the additional demands of our customers.

“Clients are requesting a wider variety of services which we need to be able to respond to quickly and professionally. Companies which outsource tasks such as picking and packing to us find they are able to concentrate on developing their business.”

The company moved into the larger premises on the back of a surge of interest in money-off vouchers as shoppers started to count their pennies in the difficult economic climate.

Spokeswoman Barbara Asker said: “In any recession, people tend to plan, and they will use money off coupons as they can make a big difference when you are paying your money at the check-out.

“We have just been so busy, we have quite a lot of big accounts so we need more staff. The more business we get, the more staff we need.”
