PESL workers will keep jobs after takeover

ENGINEERING company Morson Projects has reassured staff at a Newcastle firm that they will keep their jobs when it takes over the business.

The Salford-based firm, owned by London plc Morson Group, has bought Power Engineering Systems Limited (PESL) in Newcastle, which employs five staff.

Morson Projects says it was looking to expand its power engineering operation to cater for increasing demand for engineering services from the power sector.

The company said: “With PESL struggling to survive independently in the current economic climate, acquiring the company was an ideal solution, providing Morson Projects with a pool of expertise and a base in the North East while helping to keep the PESL employees in work.”

The Tyneside workers will move to a new branch at Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate in North Shields where they will continue to focus on power systems design, engineering installation and commissioning work for power companies in the North East and support research at Blyth-based renewable energy organisation Narec.

Morson Projects director Steve Seddon said: “The power sector is growing at a rapid pace and we were looking to expand our resource to cater for an increasing demand in engineering services from the power industry.

“The acquisition of PESL not only fulfils our expansion needs but it also allows us to take on the existing employees that otherwise would have been out of work.”
