Property experts welcomed

FLOODING and the environment top the agenda when North East property professionals meet in Newcastle next week to update their specialist knowledge.

Northern CPD Day is organised annually by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for anyone working in the land, property and construction sectors.

A total of 19 experts will speak during the day-long event which is being held at the Civic Centre in Newcastle on Wednesday, February 10.

To kick off, Margaret Fay, chair of the development agency One North East, will deliver a keynote address on opportunities for the region as the economic recovery grows.

Following that, there will be 18 sessions on a wide range of subjects. This year, as well as the standard updates on planning law, rural tax, building regulations and rating, there are a several sessions on environmental issues.

David Coulson, chairman of the RICS North East regional board, said: “We have some excellent speakers, people who are real experts in their field.”

To maintain their Chartered status, surveyors must record their continuous professional development (CPD) activity in an online diary and they are expected to do more than 20 hours per year.

Mr Coulson added: “It’s an excellent way of ensuring you remain up-to-date with new developments in your area of expertise and keep abreast of advances in technology.

“As well as maintaining core competencies, surveyors can also use CPD to develop new areas of business.”
