Pellew part-time port post
MARTYN Pellew is stepping back from his full-time role at PD Ports (PDP) to concentrate on other work in the North-east, it has emerged.
Mr Pellew will remain at PDP in a part-time capacity, working with the company on this year’s Tall Ships campaign at Hartlepool and other management activities.
However he said he wished to broaden his portfolio of work, which includes concentrating on his current presidency of the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) and as a non-executive director of Billingham-based engineering information management firm Pearson Harper.
Mr Pellew, who is also on the boards of regeneration organisation Tees Valley Unlimited and advisory service Business & Enterprise North East, said: “Some of these things are related to the work I am doing with the port.
“Much of what I can contribute to the port has already been done.
“I’ve been involved for more than seven years and a lot has been achieved in that time.
“I am still committed to helping Tees Valley and the North-east revive from the economic downturn.”
Mr Pellew is known for having a sharp political mind and is thought of as an agile negotiator.
He has helped drive through some of Teesport’s most ambitious plans over the last few years, achieving Government buy-in for the deep sea container terminal in record time for such a significant infrastructure project.
One of his most ardent campaigns has been in placing PD at the centre of a wider freight rail network for the North-east, commissioning detailed submissions to the Department of Transport for linking the port to an upgraded East Coast mainline.
He has also been instrumental in developing the port-centric logistics strategy that has attracted retail giants Asda and Tesco to Teesside, both opening major distribution hubs within the past three years and creating thousands of jobs.
Mr Pellew said he will continue lobbying for transport infrastructure upgrades in the region through his role at NECC.
