Olympic ring of confidence for North-east firms

GREAT British steel from Teesside has taken centre stage at the massive Olympic park with construction of two impressive buildings passing a major milestone.

As the international broadcast centre and the main press centre, from which thousands of foreign journalists will operate in 2012, reached their full height, the Olympic Delivery Authority took the opportunity to shout about the strength of the UK supply chain.

This week, more Tees Valley companies will have the chance to quiz the Olympic Organising Committee on the potential to supply the biggest single business opportunity in Britain for years.

With less than 880 days to go before the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games, Laurie Neville, procurement programme manager will deliver at Business Exchange North East this week.

Taking place at Newcastle Racecourse and Conference Centre on Wednesday and Thursday, the Olympic supply chain seminar will provide information on contracts for products and services in a range of areas from security, catering and facilities management to transport and logistics.

It is estimated that the Games will generate approximately £6bn worth of contracts for businesses across the UK and over the next two years with LOCOG itself procuring approximately £700m worth of products and services to stage them.
