Searching for more entrepreneurs
THERE ARE seven days and counting to the launch of the 2010 If We Can, You Can challenge, which is poised to unlock another wave of business entrepreneurs in the Tees Valley.
Backed by the Evening Gazette, If We Can, You Can has become an annual search for the face of the best and bravest businessman or woman who is looking for some help to realise their dreams.
Matt Stirland and Louise Bell, previous years’ winners, both benefited from being part of a network of support and advice which helped them develop their businesses.
In his first year, Mr Stirland - a former fireman - turned over close on £75,000 and is expanding his fitness venture into other markets including boot camp- style military training for office staff.
Meanwhile, Louise Bell is franchising her home tanning service UK-wide.
Now we are looking for more individuals who are either thinking of starting a business, running their own business or looking to grow their existing enterprise.
The prize package includes a “money can’t buy” business surgery with some of the region’s leading entrepreneurs, a business gadget, a bespoke business support package worth up to £5,000, and a sponsored place at Entrepreneurs Forum Annual Conference in May worth £250.
Carole Beverley, chief executive of organisers the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, said: “Whether you want to turn a great business idea into reality or have already taken the leap of faith and are making the first steps in running or growing your own business, we want you to enter.
“The Challenge is all about celebrating positive people and encouraging those with the vision, passion and determination to make a business work.”
According to official statistics, the number of VAT registered businesses in the North-east - the most reliable indication that the spirit of enterprise is alive and well on Teesside - has risen from 42,580 in 2007 to 57,205 in 2008, and that’s despite a backdrop of national and international economic gloom.
