SPENNYMOOR-BASED Thorn Lighting and 3M of Newton Aycliffe were among the winners at the Durham and Wearside nebusiness awards 2009.

Thorn took the Manufacturing Award, with diversified technology company 3M taking the Employer of the Year title.

However it was Houghton-le-Spring based Wessington Cryogenics that took the top title of Company of the Year.

The Durham and Wearside event was the first of three sub-regional finals. Winners in Tyneside and Northumberland will be announced on Thursday, followed by Tees Valley on March 25. Winners from all three will go forward for regional honours on April 29 at Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield.

The nebusiness awards are organised by the Evening Gazette and its sister paper The Journal.
