New role for Northumbria University professor

THE dean of Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University has been elected vice-chairman of the Association of Business Schools.

Prof Paul Croney was appointed to the role of dean at the business school in 2004. He has also worked for two other university business schools and the Outward Bound learning and development organisation. He will work with fellow new appointment Prof Huw Morris, the dean of Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, who will replace Warwick Business School’s Prof Howard Thomas in the role of chair.

Prof Croney said: "I am very much looking forward to this new role, both supporting Prof Morris and the ABS. Our business schools continue to play an important role in the UK economy and the global business environment.

"I am passionate about the development of business and management education and how UK business schools can play their part in the global economy in a sustainable and responsible way that benefits our students and clients".

The ABS represents more than 100 business schools around the UK and provides business and management education for more than 200,000 students. It works with similar organisations in Europe in matters relating to business and management education.

ABS chief executive Jonathan Slack said: "This year and beyond will be a challenging period for the higher education sector and individual business schools.

"However, as well as challenges there are many opportunities for UK business schools."
