National Skills Academy’s new skills boost
The Wilton site is home to both the Centre for Process Innovation’s National Industrial Biotechnology Facility and the £300m Ensus bioethanol plant.
Meanwhile the skills in the composites sector taps into industries such as wind technology and aerospace.
“This will mean more jobs for Teesside,” added Mr Jones.
Work will “start immediately” on establishing the new skills hubs and Mr Jones hopes they will be up and running by the autumn.
NSAPI is also looking to establish a training facility at the Wilton site to further bolsters skills.
“We are working with TTE, Teesside University and Redcar and Cleveland College to develop the facility,” added Mr Jones.
“We hope to have some facilities up and running by September, but longer term we are looking at a £10-£12m investment to create training facilities at the site.”
Speaking at the launch of the news skills academies, Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, said: “Ambitious government projects like High Speed Rail and new civil nuclear power need a range of new skills to make them a reality.
“We are investing in the industries where employers’ need is greatest - tens of thousands of people working in these industries, the consumers they serve and the UK as a whole will see the benefit.
“New academies and investment by employers, in partnership with colleges and the education sector, will create the best training that gives people the skills they need to boost their careers and drive the economy forward.”
