Entrepreneur Mike Clare to share his story

ONE of Britain's foremost serial entrepreneurs is set to help others turn their dreams into reality when he offers an exclusive glimpse behind the story of his success.

Mike Clare, founder of nationwide bed retailer Dreams, will address a gathering arranged by the Entrepreneurs' Forum later this month.

And the occasion is expected to prove truly inspirational as Mr Clare reveals everything from how he started the company, which chalked up sales of nearly £200m last year, to why he eventually sold it.

Guests will hear how Mr Clare began his career in the furniture industry before opening his first store aged just 30. Dreams was launched in 1987 and grew rapidly to become Britain's biggest bed retailer with a chain of more than 200 superstores throughout the country.

After overseeing the company's remarkable rise, Mr Clare stepped down as chairman and chief executive two years ago, but retains the role of non-executive president. Today, his diverse range of business interests is mixed with his desire to encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Last year, he established Clarenco LLP where, as executive chairman, he is involved in a variety of new investment and property ventures. A string of exciting businesses already have emerged from this stable.

The Forum has teamed up with sponsor Eversheds, which is hosting the event at its office in Central Square, Newcastle, on Tuesday, March 30, starting at 6.30pm. Attendance is free for forum members, with their guests charged £15 plus VAT. Cost for non-members is £35 plus VAT. Further details are available on 0870 850 2233 or e-mail info@entrepreneurs forum.net
