A CASH boost from the Government will help secure jobs at a North East food packaging firm and help it boost sales in the coming years.
Sunderland-based Interflex has secured a Grant for Business Investment (GBI) of £90,000 through One North East as part of a project to upgrade the company’s bread-bag-making line.
The project will boost efficiency, safeguarding the jobs of 20 workers at Interflex’s plant at Sunderland Enterprise Park, which employs 110 people.
The 75,000sq ft North East factory is one of two Interflex plants in the UK the second near Edinburgh.
They are owned by a US parent company which also has two plants in the US and another in Brazil.
Graham Tilley, managing director of Interflex, said: “We are making a substantial investment to improve efficiency and make the plant more environmentally-friendly.
“This will safeguard the jobs of our workforce and help us grow sales over the coming years.
“I am delighted with the decision of One North East to support this local business. It’s great news for the Sunderland site, our staff and the local economy.
“The new bag machine investment will help further improve our capacity and the range of products manufactured at the site.”
