Cash grant secures 20 jobs at Interflex

Ian Williams, One North East director of business and industry, said: “There is a growing market for flexible printed packaging for the food industry due to demands placed on the food manufacturers to have lighter packaging for their products.
“I am pleased One North East has been able to support Interflex in this £600,000 project and wish them all the best in the future.”
Interflex was originally established in 1978 as EBR and based on the Team Valley Trading Estate. A second manufacturing facility was established on the Sunderland Enterprise Park in 1994, and the two facilities were consolidated into a purpose built factory in 1998, which are the company’s current premises on Sunderland Enterprise Park.
The Grant for Business Investment initiative delivered by One North East is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2007-13.
Interflex is one of the few North East companies to have secured a GBI in recent months following the election and the Coalition’s reassessment of public spending projects.
Mr Williams added: “One North East was informed by government that the agency cannot commit to any new grant support to businesses that would run into the new financial year and beyond. In light of this we cannot make any fresh grant offers that will commit the agency to expenditure after March 2011.
“All grants previously approved and offered will continue to be processed, monitored and paid out as agreed in the terms of the contract.”
