Woodthorpe Hall Group acquire fifth garden centre

THE owners of Arcadia Garden Centre at Newby, Middlesbrough, have acquired their fifth garden centre after buying the Towneley Garden Centre at Burnley out of receivership.

The Woodthorpe Hall Group - which also owns three other garden centres in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire - plans to acquire a further five centres in the North and Midlands during the next five years to bring its total to 10.

Woodthorpe Hall Group general manager Phillippa Nickson said: “We are delighted to have acquired Towneley Garden Centre.

“We feel that it has tremendous potential for development and we will be making a substantial investment in the centre to increase its ranges and its facilities.

“The group’s ongoing expansion gives us increased retail stock buying power.”

The group plans to invest more than £500,000 in Towneley Garden Centre during the next 12 months and double staff numbers from 20 to 40.

The Woodthorpe Hall Group began trading 20 years ago. It now has 350 staff, compared to 275 staff a year ago.
