A sporting chance for all in the North East

THOUSANDS more people in the North East are set to benefit from sports and education projects after two of Newcastle's biggest organisations teamed up.

Newcastle University Business School has developed a business plan in conjunction with Newcastle United Foundation to enhance the way the charity helps communities with health and nutrition awareness projects and sports coaching.

The Foundation helped 10,000 people in its first year and 20,000 in its second year – and now thanks to Newcastle University Business School has a programme in place that will allow it to unlock more funding, develop the range of projects it offers and work more closely with other organisations across the region.

The partnership was based around Newcastle University’s Voucher Scheme, which gave the Foundation access to £5,000 worth of free expert business advice from Newcastle University Business School.

Sarah Carnegie, guest lecturer at Newcastle University Business School, said the project was an excellent example of major organisations in the North East working together to improve the region. “Newcastle United Foundation is a fantastic initiative that offers a great deal of value to North East communities – but was looking for ways to build on its initial success,” she said.

“Newcastle University Business School was able to draw on its expertise to put together a structured business plan that will enable the Foundation to grow in the future and help even more people.”

Fiona Whitehurst, director of engagement at Newcastle University Business School added: “The project demonstrates how Newcastle University Business School is making a real impact on local organisations and we have developed a great relationship with the team at the Newcastle United Foundation.”
