PEOPLE from across Stockton are now a step closer to realising their entrepreneurial ambitions after taking part in Stockton Enterprise Week.
People of all ages and backgrounds took part in a range of activities to help them develop their entrepreneurial skills, with more than 25 events taking place ranging from workshops for people thinking about setting up their own business to activities for budding musicians.
Since September, 14-19 year olds from across the borough have been developing their own business ideas as part of the Future Entrepreneurs Challenge 2010.
The ‘dragon’s den style’ grande finale was held at Wynyard Hall, where T-Riffic from St Michael’s RC School in Billingham were crowned Future Entrepreneurs 2010 for creating a T-shirt printing business based on cupcake designs.
To mark the occasion, young people from Thornaby Academy broadcast a special Enterprise show to mark the launch of their online radio station, Urban Beatz.
Meanwhile, representatives from Stockton Council picked up the Enterprising Britain – Regional Winner 2010 award which recognises local organisations working together to drive social and economic transformation.
Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Cllr Bob Cook, said: “Stockton Enterprise Week was a big success. It is fantastic that so many people participated in Stockton.
“It shows the borough is at the forefront of enterprise and is in a strong position to continue to develop and retain a thriving economy.
“Stockton Council and its partners gained recognition for the support we offer people looking to set up in business at last week’s Enterprising Britain Awards.
“This support is available all year round and I would like to encourage anyone who is considering self-employment to contact the Council’s Business Development Team to find out how they can assist in making their ambition a reality.”
Stockton Enterprise Week showcased the support available for budding entrepreneurs and existing businesses through a wide range of activities and workshops including free workshops giving people the chance to talk to mentors and business people about what enterprise means, marketing, gaps in the market and working from home, Business Centre Open Days showcasing the accommodation available for new businesses, Starting Your Own Business workshops and digital and creative business events.
