Driving school lands £2m Army contract

A NORTH East driving school that provides training for the Army has landed a contract worth more than £2m, which it hopes will help to more than triple its turnover and create jobs.

B Safe Driver Training, which is based in Willington, near Crook in County Durham, has landed the four-year contract to teach new recruits how to tow trailers at barracks, including Deepcut, Larkhill and Southwick Park, all in the South.

The contract is the biggest in the firm’s 10-year history and will see it increase it team of self-employed driving instructors from 40 to 52 over the coming weeks.

The firm, which also provides traditional driving tuition, has handled contracts from the MoD since its launch, with the work now representing 85% of its business.

The company is now aiming to grow its sales from £320,000 to £500,000 in the next two to three years, before breaking the £1m two years later.

Ronnie Kell, owner of B Safe Driver Training, said: “I am really proud as we were up against some of the largest driver training schools in the UK, and we have been awarded for months of hard work.

“This is one of the most prestigious contracts we could have won and will have a major impact on our turnover and the number of self-employed drivers that we are able to create work for.”
