Award to allow BLS to turn up the volume

The Foo Fighters

EXPANSION is on the horizon for a Stanley business which makes amplifier transformers used by bands such as Blur, Kings of Leon and The Foo Fighters.

BLS Electronics has picked up £75,000 from a Regional Growth Fund application, money it plans to use to expand its base in a converted pit manager’s office in Annfield Plain’s Morrison Industrial Estate, as well as increase its staff, improve its website and look at new ways to develop the business.

The money was secured with the help of County Durham financial firm Harlands, which assisted several clients with their RGF bids.

Managing director Fran Williams said: “The Regional Growth Fund money will make up about 25% of the budget of the expansion in total. At the moment we’re restricted by the space available, so we’re looking to extend out the back.

“Our employees live in either Annfield Plain or Stanley, and we’re very much a local company even though our customers are international. We’ve got some very loyal and local staff and we’re hoping to add six or seven more over the next few years.”

BLS is a second-generation family business supplying transformers, chokes and coil-windings, which found a promising new niche in amplifier transformers a few years back.
