Celebrating contribution of North East investor directors

Today The Journal unveils the North East Institute of Directors' annual list of the region’s leading investor directors. Alastair Thomson, the IoD's regional chairman, sets the scene.

THE contribution that directors are making to the economic wellbeing of the region is more important than ever in the current fiscal climate.

Private-sector companies, led by dynamic and successful leaders, are crucial if the region is to fill the employment gap that is being left as public organisations contract and reduce their workforces.

The IoD North East’s Investor Director listing, which is supported by Middleton Enterprises, recognises go-ahead business leaders who are driving the region’s economy forward by creating jobs or investing effort, time or money in their organisations or the area’s infrastructure. All of these factors contribute to the economic lifeblood of the region.

Jeremy Middleton owns Middleton Enterprises Ltd, a private investment company that has made a substantial contribution to the North East’s economy by investing in and providing business advice to entrepreneurial businesses.

During recent years, it has supported seven North East businesses, generally from start-up, usually taking a minority stake and offering strategic advice to support growth.

Jeremy’s private sector investment knowledge and expertise has played an integral part in helping shape the awards.

Individuals who have the drive, dedication, skill and shrewdness to create and develop successful innovative businesses form a vital economic backbone to the region.

We need to cultivate and nurture more entrepreneurial talent by encouraging enterprising people to set up and develop their own businesses.

It is important to recognise role models, who have the ability to inspire others to follow their lead.

Our Investor Director listing features directors from the North East, all of whom are helping propel the region’s economy forward.

We firmly believe that turning the spotlight on those who are doing this successfully will spur others to follow an entrepreneurial path.

The leading Investor Directors in the North East will be honoured at the IoD North East’s annual Business Leaders’ Dinner, which is sponsored by strategic communications consultancy Admiral, on Wednesday, March 7, at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Durham, starting at 7pm.
