Homes and sport facility investment in Hartlepool

A MULTI-million homes and leisure development which will include state-of-the-art “air dome sports facilities” has been given the green light by Hartlepool Borough Council.

The £7m scheme – which will initially create 30 jobs – at the Mayfair Centre site at Tees Road, Seaton Carew includes a fun family golf course and children’s play areas along with the air domes which will be used as an indoor five-a-side football facility with a full-size football pitch.

The project will also see 244 new homes being built at the site by Persimmon Homes in partnership with the scheme developer, Hartlepool entrepreneur Brian Morton.

Mr Morton, who also owns the town’s Staincliffe Hotel, has been working on bringing the scheme together for the past 12 months and says that it will give Hartlepool some of the best facilities in the North East.

He said: “This a massive boost for Hartlepool and will be a great development for the town. The air domes in particular are spectacular and will provide some much-needed all-weather sports facilities which have not existed before.

“It’s a great investment in the town and hopefully when complete will be something for Hartlepool to be rightly proud of. Our aim is to have the full leisure complex open by July 20 to coincide with the start of the Olympics.”
