A FLEDGLING design company is going from strength to strength as it gets its teeth into the digital market.

Big Bite Creative has been set up by four 23-year-old graduates of Teesside University who are operating out of DigitalCity Business’s (DCB) Boho One building in Middlesbrough.

Big Bite is a web company working on ongoing development as well as one-off projects – and it’s got off to a flying start with contracts worth many thousands of pounds.

The company has recently won four new contracts including work for Middlesbrough Football Club and the Centre for Process Innovation as well as for firms in the USA and Singapore.

Iain McPherson is Big Bite’s business development director. He works with partners Natalie Larkin, graphic designer; Mark Goodyear, graphic and web design; and Jason Agnew, software developer. Iain, Natalie and Mark are all Teessiders and Jason is from Ireland.

Iain said: “One of the reasons we work together so well is that we all have complementary skills. We are a good fit and so far it is paying off.

“DigitalCity Business is exactly the right place for us to be – we have already taken advantage of the Business Growth Workshop and Interim Sales Director programmes.

“We have moved to DCB from the university’s Digital Innovation Centre because it’s time to push on and grow as fast as we can

“We hope to grow this year and to be in a position to take on another developer in a few months.”

Mark Elliott, chief executive of DCB, said: “Big Bite has done incredibly well in a short space of time, has benefited from starting up at Teesside University, and is now on the second stage of its development – growing as fast and effectively as possible.

“It’s ambitious firms like Big Bite that will drive the growth of our digital cluster, and help to keep local talent in the Tees Valley.

“Our young people are just as gifted, just as determined to succeed as those anywhere else in the country – maybe even more so. All you need to do is give them the room and the opportunity to grow, and you see them go for it.

“They’re one of our most valuable assets and one of best weapons in the fight to generate wealth and improve the economy of the region.”
