A TEESSIDE recycling firm is spreading its wings after securing 100 waste management contracts in the Tyneside area.
J & B Recycling predominantly operates weekly collections of a variety of waste streams in and around its home town of Hartlepool.
However, the company has managed to land 100 contracts outside the area since January, five times more than in previous months.
J&B recycles approximately 100,000 tonnes of waste each year from household, commercial, industrial and construction sources across the North East.
In anticipation of future growth, the firm has taken on two acres of land next door to its main site at Hartlepool to extend its sorting facility.
Commercial manager Mark Penny said: “Over the last 12 months we’ve been expanding into the Tyneside area in a bid to push outside of our normal boundaries.
“When the business launched in 2008 we provided a collection round for glass bottles, but in the last three years the business has developed through the building of two recycling facilities in Hartlepool, one which now processes all types of waste, whilst the other specialises in kerbside recyclables.
“We’ve always been associated as a glass recycling company but the last 12 months has been about telling people that we do a lot more than that.”
