THE Tyneside Cinema has won a clutch of trophies at the annual Big Chip Awards for digital excellence in the North of England.
Its innovative Time Machine educational project was one of the biggest winners at the awards backed by The Journal for the first time to encourage more entries from the North East.
It was one of six North East finalists for eight awards recognised at last night’s finals in Manchester and one of three North East winners along with Newcastle digital agency Darling Dash, run by Tim Allison, and Newcastle marketing agency Status Digital.
An influx of North East entries helped to push up the number of entries to a record 261 from 152 digital and creative companies.
Chair of organisers Manchester Digital, Shaun Fensom, said: “It’s been such a fantastic year for the Big Chip Awards, with digital organisations from across the North of England from Liverpool to Newcastle stepping up to be recognised for their achievements, and providing us with the strongest shortlist to date ... as well as a record number of entries.
“The event has continued to grow year on year, with the quality of agencies from across this digital sector being reflected in this year’s winners. We have truly established the North as a world showcase for the industry, creating forward-thinking projects and services and it is crucial that we celebrate those achievements.”
The Tyneside won in the Best Not for Profit Project and Best Application of Technology categories as well as the special Anthony Wilson Original Modern Award.
