Former solicitor moves Sunderland University business faculty

FORMER solicitor Steve Levett has been appointed associate dean of recruitment and development for the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Sunderland.

Steve moves from the College of Law, the largest legal training and education establishment in Europe, where he was head of business development for the college’s eight centres across England.

Before joining the College of Law Levett was a solicitor at the Government Legal Service.

His new role brings a strong focus on employer and external engagement and student recruitment for the growing faculty of business and law.

He said: “This is a strong faculty which has forged relationships with institutions worldwide. The University of Sunderland’s new London campus is creating new opportunities for international business and law students and the approach here is refreshingly outward-facing.

“The local impact of the faculty’s courses and engagement is also a priority, and we will work with companies to train employees and create bespoke programmes for both public and private sectors.

“Because the faculty covers business, law and tourism we have an advantage in being distinctive from other regional universities. The interlinking strengths of the three study areas have huge potential for innovative cross-disciplinary programmes, work-based learning and research.”

Dean of the faculty of business and law, Professor Bernie Callaghan said: “Steve is a welcome addition to the faculty. His long track record in business development within higher education and his astute commercial approach will strengthen the team and provide the focus we need to continue to move ahead regionally, nationally and internationally.”
