Sarah puts on a show of true style

TEESSIDE textile designer Sarah Ford is celebrating the launch of her new business with the opening of her first exhibition of work.

Sarah, 24, from Stockton, graduated with a degree in Textile and Surface Design from Cleveland College of Art and Design last year.

Since then she has been busy preparing stock and developing new product lines.

“It was quite daunting to think of running my own business but sewing is my obsession and I wouldn’t want it any other way,” Sarah said.

“Being able to exhibit my work in a gallery right from the outset has been a fantastic start.”

Sarah’s exhibition, at Arthur Robinson House in Billingham, includes a display of uniquely designed and creatively embellished wall hangings.

She has already sold her first commissioned piece and the exhibition has attracted the attention of other gallery owners who are looking to host Sarah’s work in the New Year.

To help her prepare for self-employment, Sarah obtained help and support from Business Link, Rachel Powell, Five Lamps, Sixth Element, Working Links and Job Centre Plus.

“After graduating, I was determined to find the confidence to follow my passion for textile design,” Sarah added.

“I’m living the dream now and loving every new challenge.”

Sarah also showcased her work at the Designer Market Place being held at Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt at the weekend.

Her exhibition at Arthur Robinson House will be on display until the end of December.
