Grant aid adds up to £28.2m

SINCE the beginning of the 2002/03 financial year, One NorthEast has made grant support offers to 112 companies in County Durham valued at a total of £28.2m.
This investment could create more than 3,200 new jobs and will safeguard 3,600 existing jobs at those businesses.
A ONE spokesman said: “Our investment is levering in £220m in capital investment from the companies we are supporting.”
ONE has also offered £445,000 in Selective Finance for Investment grant support to Thorn Lighting in Spennymoor to help with the creation of a new research and development facility. The spokesman added: “Thorn has just begun work on its new £24m factory which will safeguard 700 jobs over the next 20 years.”
