KEN McMeikan, 42, is retail director of J Sainsbury plc where he is responsible for 453 supermarkets, the online food business and for 130,000 staff across the UK, though is currently taking a sabbatical from the company.

He is credited with playing a major part in the company’s progress since he joined the business in 2005.

Mr McMeikan joined Sainsbury after a short period as chief executive of Tesco Japan.
