No plans to cut Nissan wages

NISSAN has written to all 3,500 manufacturing workers at its Sunderland plant to assure them there are no plans to cut their wages next year.

The company has written to the staff following a report in last Friday’s Journal. It reported workers’ claims that production at the car plant could be stopped until March with workers paid for just one week in four.

The Journal now accepts that this option was not, as had been reported, included in a DVD shown to staff last Thursday.

Nissan has reduced production at the plant in the run up to Christmas and shut down two days earlier for the annual festive break. Staff are due to return to work on January 5.
