Concrete firm Minimix North East is reusing its waste
CONCRETE firm Minimix North East has used recycling to turn its fortunes around.
The Billingham company has developed a system which allows it to use waste from the driveways side of its business and break it down for reuse as raw materials for driveway foundation and concrete mixes.
Minimix managing director Peter Marley said the move, achieved with help from the Manufacturing Advisory Service North East, has “helped us through the recent challenging economic times”.
He said: “Teesside is often wrongly labelled as an area where harmful and dirty manufacturing processes occur, but we are just one example of many business that are acting responsibly and trying to reduce the environmental impact we have on the local area.”
The company has also reduced its material and haulage costs by 30% and has created four jobs thanks to its increased on-site recycling drive. The Haverton Hill business has been operating for more than two decades, manufacturing and supplying ready-mix concrete to businesses and the general public.
