North firm is aiming for the Gulf market

Biotecnix

THE next generation of security access technology – based on the recognition of a person’s bloodflow and vein pattern – looks set to take a fledgling North East firm into the Gulf market while doubling its workforce.

In the 10 months since its launch, Consett-based Biotecnix has won contracts to install its tracking and security system on over 9,000 vehicles through deals with a number of blue-chip firms and the Forestry Commission.

As well as the latest in tracking technology, which can monitor emissions, acceleration and abnormalities, vehicles are protected by a security system which reads the vein and bloodflow pattern of drivers to establish their identity.

The device reads the palm of the driver’s hand with an infrared sensor behind a small glass plate installed on the dashboard or in more discreet areas of the vehicle.

It can also be activated if the driver is in an emergency situation while, should the vehicle be stolen, it can be brought to a stop by Biotecnix’s technology which can effectively disable the engine.

The company is now in talks with a care home operator which could see the vein-reading sensors installed in 25 residences and is also hopeful of winning a deal to boost security at a North East nursery school.
