Reputation Matters at Northumbrian Water

Northumbrian Water

NORTHUMBRIAN Water is the first company to be honoured as part of the nebusiness Reputation Matters campaign.

The company, which yesterday revealed a rise in profits, was nominated after it was ranked 48th out of 140 large UK companies in a league of good corporate reputation by Reputation Pulse.

The Durham company, which last year won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise and an award from Business in the Community, was also ranked the best utility in the respected league table.

John Mowbray, director of corporate affairs, said: “These results reflect the effort that Northumbrian Water puts into ensuring that it provides an excellent service while enhancing and protecting the communities we serve.

“As a business we are passionate about protecting and improving the environment, giving something back to communities and looking after our employees.”

The utility’s schemes include encouraging staff to spend at least 15 hours of paid work time on local initiatives.

Daniel O’Mahoney, of Bradley O’Mahoney Public Relations, a partner in the Reputation Matters programme, said: “This is a great example of a big company that recognises the need to build its reputation from the grass roots upwards – the community in which it lives.

“Such community involvement is growing as companies recognise the importance of their wider social responsibilities. To have so many members of staff volunteering to help reflects the confidence they have that the business will be fully supportive of their efforts.”
