Twestival for Twitterers to meet and raise cash

Funds raised at the event will be donated to Charity: Water, a non-profit organisation that is helping to bring clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

Aoife Ross, one of the volunteers organising the event, said: “The Tyne Twestival should be a great way for like-minded Twitterers to meet one another in person and build upon their existing relationships, and it should also help raise a lot of money for Charity: Water.”

The event is being sponsored by several local organisations, including spam protection system Email Cloud, and the Thinking Digital and GameHorizon Conferences, both of which are run by Codeworks, the North East’s centre for digital innovation.

Herb Kim, CEO of Codeworks, said: “We’re delighted that Thinking Digital and the GameHorizon Conferences have been able to help make this first ever Newcastle Twestival a success.

“Having started as the preserve of technologists and self-confessed geeks around the world, Twitter is becoming an increasingly popular and important tool for conversing with friends and colleagues, and for making the most of your relationships with online communities – something that’s hugely important today.”

Newcastle Twestival is open to anyone who is interested and attendees are asked to contribute £3 to charity online. Go to nebusiness.co.uk to find out more.
