Female geeks organise get-together
Jun 18 2009 By The Journal
A GROUP of female geeks will gather to discuss ways of boosting innovation in the region.
Durham Girl Geek Dinners aims to bring together women in different sectors who have a passion for technology.
The idea began in London and has grown into a global phenomenon, with groups as far away as New York and Malaysia.
Mia Chapman, founder of the Durham chapter, hopes it will bring innovation to the region as well as boosting the profile of women in business.
She said "The remit is anyone with an interest in technology. It is a chance for the North East to showcase what we have to offer."
Ms Chapman, who is managing director of biometric security company Biotecnix, also hopes the new group will create a support network for women in a traditionally male sector. Go to www.nebusiness.co.uk/events for details about the launch of the event.
