Mia Chapman, founder of Girl Geeks said: “This is a great opportunity for like-minded, professional woman from across the North East region to get together, make connections and share experiences in a fun, social environment.
“Girl Geeks is a fun, friendly network for all women with an interest in technology, science, innovations, entrepreneurialism, creativity and computing.
“The concept was started in London and is now a global phenomenon with ‘Girl Geek Dinners’ being organised all over the world.
Ruth Warwick, events co-ordinator at Newcastle University Business School – which will host the event – said: “As well as being a great resource to women working in the region’s technical industry, the Girl Geeks network is a fantastic way to support and nurture emerging talent, thus developing the technical skill base in the North East and securing our future economy.
“By being involved from the beginning, the business school can ensure the network has all the necessary support and encouragement to help develop and achieve its full potential.”
According to the organisers, ‘boy geeks’ are also welcome but only if they are escorted by their female counterparts.
Tickets for the event on September 10 at Newcastle University Business School’s Citywall headquarters on St James’ Boulevard are £20 per person.
