Codeworks moving closer to customers

Staff at Codeworks

DIGITAL support organisation Codeworks is setting up a second office in the region, moving several of its teams to the Gateshead International Business Centre.

The Codeworks staff were all previously based at St Peter’s Gate in Sunderland, and the Codeworks DEV and Sunderland Software City teams will remain at the office.

However, those co-ordinating its projects such as GameHorizon, Codeworks Connect, Jobs in Digital, NorthernNet, and the DIBI and Thinking Digital conferences moved into their new home on Monday.

CEO Herb Kim said the move would allow it to cater for an expanding base in the Gateshead and Newcastle area. The increased profile of the organisation – which organises conferences such as Thinking Digital and GameHorizon in Gateshead – led to Kim being named one of the 100 most powerful people in UK media by the Guardian newspaper.

During the GameHorizon conference this year, the gaming industry support provider opened its membership to a national audience, while the first “Design It. Build It” conference sold out four months after its launch.

He said: “Codeworks’ main priority is to support the North East’s creative and digital sectors and by having smaller offices in both Gateshead and Sunderland we’ll be able to cater more efficiently for the community that we serve.

“The move is also a testament to our growing relationship with Gateshead Council. We worked closely with the council to produce Gateshead Digital Summer 2010 and we hope to work closely with them in the future.”
