North East businesses attend UK's largest technology show

COMPANIES from the North East are down in London's Docklands this week to turn heads at the UK's largest technology show.

A delegation led by Sunderland Software City is visiting the ExCeL conference centre in East London to attend TechWorld 2011. Today is the second day of the event, which showcases hi-tech companies from around the country.

The group of eight includes Orchid Software, payment validation firm Unified, online assessment company The Test Factory, touchscreen innovators LamasaTech, webcasting provider Workcast, games and app firm Pitbull Studios, mobile loyalty company Imobigo and stereoscopic 3D consultancy Stereografix.

Sunderland Software City’s chief executive officer Bernie Callaghan said: “Software is globally ubiquitous. There’s not an industry or a country where it isn’t vital.

“The size of potential overseas markets and the comparative ease of global trading for software companies makes international trade very important, not just to regional software companies but to the wider economy.

“The standard of North East software is as strong as anywhere – something which is increasingly recognised around the world, and TechWorld gives us the chance to showcase our region’s software strengths to an international audience.”

The two-day event is organised by UKTI and will see the companies conduct face-to-face meetings, as well as exhibit their products.

The event appealed to Orchid, which provides clients such as Nissan, ITV, Pinewood Studios, Pizza Express and Northern Rock with its intranet product Orchidnet.

Ajay Sood said TechWorld was the “perfect platform” for its software, which helps to manage internal communications across sites worldwide.

Workcast’s Barney Brown added it would give the firm a chance to showcase its approach to webcasting services, which have become “an increasingly vital part of international business”.

“We think the WorkCast product is the best of its kind, and are looking forward to demonstrating that to potential international customers at TechnologyWorld.”
