North East firms urged to go global in search for success

COMPANIES in the life sciences and mobile sectors have been offered the chance to develop their business by UK Trade & Investment.

UKTI is offering life science organisations the opportunity to get one-to-one time with experts in the Asia Pacific region at an event on December 6.

Earlier this week it launched a search for the UK’s most innovative mobile company, dangling the carrot of pitching support and wider exposure. Finalists will appear at Mobile World Congress in February.

The life sciences event will see specialists from 10 British embassies and diplomatic offices from the region gather at St James’ Park. They will offer guidance on the markets involved and help firms to identify gaps in these areas that their products could fill.

There is also time for consultations, lasting around 30 minutes, discussing markets such as Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan.

UKTI’s international trade adviser for the life sciences, pharmaceuticals and chemicals sector, Keith Stockdale, said: “Life sciences in the UK is a world-leading industry with more than 3,500 medical technology and biotechnology companies.

“Combine this with the pharmaceutical exports of £18bn and it means the UK is a major supplier of life sciences products and services across the globe. And the North East in particular has a strong track record of cutting-edge research in this sector.

“This event will be a great way of exploring a range of new markets to help decide which is best for them.”

The event is free, but interested companies are advised to book places by telephoning 0191 497 8571 or emailing kevin.southern@ukti.gsi.gov.uk
