Abel’s rapid growth into larger premises

A PLASTERING company is moving to new premises after doubling its workforce as new business came in.

Abel Plastering Ltd had just 20 employees when it moved into the Tedco Business Centre in South Tyneside two-and-a-half years ago, but since then, its staff numbers have more than doubled to 55.

“In the early days, the business was carried out from home,” said Abel’s Wayne Lascelles. “Office and storage premises became a problem due to the growth of the company. Due to the amazing growth of Abel Plastering, we are moving on to bigger premises.”

The business, which concentrates on work for business clients and housebuilders, has now shifted to a larger office in Killingworth on North Tyneside. It employs a mixture of staff and apprentices, and turns to sub-contractors who are taken on as and when they are needed. Mr Lascelles admits that the slowdown in the housing market is worrying but says that the start of the year is always difficult for anyone involved in the construction industry.

Tedco staff at the centre, based at the Viking Industrial Park in Jarrow, offer business advice to new and developing enterprises as well as providing accommodation.

Centre manager Hilary Wollard said: “We are thrilled with the growth and success of Abel Plastering. When they moved into the centre, they were destined to grow and we are pleased to have supported another thriving business in South Tyneside.”

Mr Lascelles added: “Tedco has been a massive benefit in the growth of the company, not only in the supply of premises but with much appreciated advice from staff.”
