A NEW business is bringing a taste of Scotland to Northumberland via a Danish-owned supermarket.
Cathy Woodward opened her own butcher’s business inside Ashington’s Netto after being made redundant as a meat cutter when the butcher shop where she worked closed.
Cathy’s Fresh Cuts has been trading for less than a month but is already looking to employ two part-time staff to help cope with demand.
Cathy, originally from Selkirk, sells products with a Scottish flavour such as beef olives, haggis and Lorne sausage as well as locally-sourced meat.
She said: “It’s been quite scary starting out on my own but it’s also a great feeling knowing that I’m doing something I’ve always wanted to do.”
She turned to the BizzFizz coaching team in Wansbeck for advice before deciding to go it alone.
The system provides one-to-one support for entrepreneurs who are setting up or expanding their businesses.
BizzFizz coach Graeme Trotter said: “Cathy was a joy to coach; she has a lot of passion for what she does and battled every obstacle in her way.
“Our aim is to help people at every stage of their business, so help is on hand if Cathy encounters an unexpected problem with any aspect of her work.”
