'Losing your job can lead to success'

A BUSINESS support agency is predicting a growth in grassroots enterprise as a result of the current climate.
Tedco – Tyneside Economic Development Company – was formed as a result of local economic difficulties almost 25 years ago and is promoting the benefits of exploring self employment as a viable career option.
The organisation has started a series of free workshops and advice sessions in venues across South Tyneside and North Tyneside. Business start-up advisers now believe the economic downturn could be the catalyst to self-employment for many workers.
Tedco business support manager Carole White said: “In times of economic uncertainty people look for security and being your own boss puts you in charge of your own destiny. During the last two recessions we experienced a rise in inquiries and as the current recession takes a grip, our friendly, impartial team are happy to help people to take their idea forward.
“Sometimes losing a secure job can be the life changing event that leads to success in the world of self-employment. We are running a number of workshops to give people a taste of what working for yourself entails and we would urge anyone worried about the future to get in touch.” Tedco business advisers work with anyone looking to start their own business.
The service is impartial, strictly confidential and free of charge. They can assist in sourcing funding and provide training in the essentials of running a business.
